About Gwanghwamun

Gwanghwamun Gate begun its constuction in 1395 at the beginning of the Joseon dynasty. The gate quickly became one of the most important gates of the Joseon Dynasty since it guarded the main palace.

There are three other gates that can be found along the 2,404 meters (7,887 feet) of walls surrounding the palace. The other three gates are Sinmumun, Geonchunmun, and Yeongchumun.

The gate consists of three entrances and a towering two story pavilion. At one time, Gwanghwamun was guarded by multiple watchtowers.

The Gwanghwamun square is between the Gwanghwamun Gate and Cheonggyecheon. A very wide and spacious walk. Do not miss going here as you can easily visit the Gyeongbokgung Palace and Cheonggyecheon on foot within the same day.

Nice view of Gyeongbokgung from here. Lovely place to visit. But for me, the true highlight is the museum underground. Check out the entrance at the back of King Sejong s statue. It s free for all and has interactive exhibits to make learning Korean history fun. Best not to go on weekends as it can be noisy (yet still fun) with all the kids.

It is so much fun to visit the children. You can run and play in the plaza, or you can play in the basement Story by Chungmugong Story for King Sejong Gwanghwa Test naval weapon experience area etc. There are also many cafes and restaurants nearby. This was my third time visiting the child in this year.
